Hi my family :)
Hope everyone had a good Father's Day!
It's been a pretty cold week here in Bathgate. The summer weather is pretty up and down here in Scotland. They say that within one day, you can experience 4 seasons here. That is so true! One minute we will be in short sleeved shirts-roasting, the next hour we can be putting on our winter coats because a cold burst will appear and it'll start pouring, and then the next minute we are in the sunshine in short sleeved shirts. You just never know what will come! It's kind of funny!
We're continuing to teach Harley and Sharni, our young couple that we met on the bus. We're also teaching their friend and her boyfriend now. (Breanne and Jamie). It's been really good. When we go to teach them we have the 4 of them, the 3 of us, and then a member that we bring with us. So last time when we taught them the Plan of Salvation, we had 8 of us huddled all around the Plan of Salvation cut outs that Amy and Heather sent me. Haha. It's such a neat experience! All of us, including the member that we bring out, are between the ages of 19-22 so we're becoming good friends and enjoy discussing the gospel together. They have so many good questions they ask us.
This week has seemed to be the week of Latvians! We received a referral from a less active member, and the referral's name is Ennasai and she is from Latvia. We taught her at her friend's home (who's the member) and that was a really good experience. We'll be seeing her again this week. And then at one point in the week, we were trying to contact someone at their house, but it turned out they had moved. But the person who had moved in is a guy in his late 20's from Latvia named Yanis and it turns out he was baptised five years ago! So he just recently moved in and knows pretty good english but not a lot and he lives with four of his friends, who are also from Latvia and not members of the church. That was such a tender mercy from the Lord to lead us to the door of a member from Latvia who didn't know where the church was! Also, we've decided at this rate that our vision for Bathgate will be to start a Latvian branch. ;)
Another highlight from this week- we were having dinner with Sister Deans from the ward and her husband is not a member. He doesn't like to sit in on missionary lessons and never has, and didn't this time with us either. But when we were teaching his wife, we started the lesson by singing her I Know That My Redeemer Lives. We didn't think anything of it, but Sister Deans came up to us in church all excited and told us that her husband listened to the hymn we sang from the other room and loved hearing us sing. So he has asked that we come back and he's going to bring down his keyboard and he wants us to play and sing more hymns next time! I know it might just seem like a little thing, but for him, it's a big deal to do something like this. And we're excited because the hymns carry such good messages! He can learn a lot by listening to the hymns and I know that this can help soften his heart to being taught!
So it's been a good week. Little things that happen each day, just confirm to me how much this is truly the Lord's work. We couldn't do it without the promptings and impressions we receive from Him. By the way, I've narrowed down three things that help me the most out here: Praying, Laughing, and Loving. Those three things help me so much! I found a quote from David L. Beck's talk last conference that I absolutely love and I put it in front of my planner, he said, ''As you love His children, Heavenly Father will guide you, and angels will assist you." I think that this is powerful. Love is always connected with sharing the gospel with others because that is when Heavenly Father will help us- is when we are caring for our neighbors and friends, his children.
